I'm a former media and entertainment lawyer who decided to ditch the corporate life in favour of taking pictures. Getting the opportunity to work under Miles Aldridge was the push I needed to make the leap of faith. My work straddles fine art, editorial and commercial photography with a focus on landscapes.

I’m an aestheticist. I love playing with light and colour, complexity and finding beauty in the darkness and shadows. I like the notion of making the unseen, seen. With my fine art photography I’ve been experimenting with the patterns and textures found within the natural world, combining scale and context to create images that, while being wholly grounded in reality, feel other-wordly.

Adventure has to be the best part of my job. I’m constantly planning the next destination to photograph and finding ways to capture that place’s story in a way that feels as unexplored as the location itself.

I’m always up for new collaborations and commissions, so don’t hesitate to drop me a line if you’ve got a project that you’d like to chat about.  My fine art is available via galleries and http://prints.kateballis.com/
